The Weekly Tips Column
By Ahmad Zulkifli, football analyst at EE9 Sports. Odds checked: 29 July 2026.
This column runs every week during the season. No sure-win talk here — just a lean, the reasoning behind it, and an honest record of how it played out. Use it as one input among several, not a substitute for your own homework. Full breakdowns of the market itself live on our football betting and live betting pages.
This Week's Tips
The 2026-27 European season is still a couple of weeks out — the Premier League kicks off mid-August, with La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga following the same weekend. Liga Super Malaysia is mid-season and still throwing up value most sportsbooks price lazily. Here's where I'm leaning, framed as a lean, not a promise:
- EPL opening weekend — reigning champions at home: our lean is toward a low-to-mid handicap favourite on the champions' side (-0.5 to -1 AH range), on the logic that pre-season form and squad depth usually show up fast in matchday one. Odds will move once team news drops, so check EE9's board close to kickoff rather than trusting a number written days out.
- EPL opening weekend — newly promoted side away from home: our lean leans Under on the total goals line. Promoted teams typically set up defensively in their first few away trips before they've settled into the pace of the league.
- Liga Super Malaysia — JDT away fixture: our lean is a small Asian Handicap value play on JDT's opponent, purely on the head-start the handicap line usually gives. JDT's away form has been shakier than their home dominance this season, so the market sometimes overprices them on the road.
- Champions League qualifying-adjacent friendlies (early Aug): skip these for anything beyond a small stake — squad rotation makes pre-season friendlies close to a coin flip, and we say so even though a "tip" here would pad the column.
No exact odds quoted above on purpose — lines move between now and kickoff, and quoting a number today that's gone by matchday helps nobody. Check EE9's live board for the current price before you stake anything.
Track Record
Every tip we publish gets logged here, win or lose. An honest empty table at the start of a season is worth more than a record we can't verify — so this one starts blank and builds week by week from the 2026-27 opening weekend onward.

How We Pick These Tips
Form over the last five matches gets weighted more than season-long averages — a team's last five games tell you more about Saturday than their result in March. We look at underlying xG rather than just the scoreline, since a 1-0 win built on one deflection isn't the same as a 1-0 win built on a dominant performance. Team news matters more in football than most bettors credit it — a key injury announced two hours before kickoff can flip a line entirely, which is why we check again close to matchday rather than locking in Monday. And ultimately we're looking for Asian Handicap value: not "who wins" but "is this price fair for what we think will happen," which is a different question and the one that actually makes money over a season.
2026-27 Season Predictions
The 2026-27 club season kicks off in August with the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and Bundesliga all back in action, followed by the Champions League league phase in September. Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich enter as usual favourites for their domestic titles, while Arsenal and Liverpool look to challenge for the Premier League crown — see our full EPL 2026-27 season preview for the longer breakdown. In Europe, the Champions League outright market draws heavy interest from Malaysian bettors early in the campaign, with holders and perennial contenders both offered at competitive odds. Locally, the Liga Super Malaysia title race is always closely followed by domestic fans — our Liga Super Malaysia betting guide covers the local angle in more depth.
EPL Tips for Malaysian Bettors
The English Premier League is Malaysia's most-watched and most-bet football competition. Every weekend, millions of Malaysian fans watch EPL matches and place bets on EE9. The current season sees Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea competing at the top of the table. EPL tips from EE9 focus on Asian Handicap markets, which are overwhelmingly preferred by Malaysian bettors over traditional 1X2 markets. Key factors to watch: fixture congestion affects team rotations significantly, especially for clubs in European competition. Home advantage in the Premier League is statistically significant — bottom-half clubs at home to top teams often outperform their handicap. Always check latest injury news as EPL squad news is released 24 hours before kick-off.
Malaysia Super League Tips
The Malaysia Super League (MSL) is Malaysia's top football division and attracts a loyal local betting audience at EE9. Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) has dominated the MSL for over a decade and remains the benchmark club, though challengers from Selangor FC, Kuala Lumpur City, and Terengganu FC have closed the gap in recent seasons. Local knowledge is a significant edge in MSL betting — understanding which clubs have new foreign signings, which have strong home records at their grounds, and how Malaysian players perform in different conditions (EE9 analysts track this data closely). The MSL season runs from March to November, providing consistent local betting content throughout the year.
How to Read Football Odds
Understanding odds formats is fundamental to successful betting. At EE9, odds are displayed in decimal format (e.g. 2.10), which means your total return (stake + profit) per unit staked. To calculate profit: multiply your stake by the decimal odds and subtract your stake. Asian Handicap is the most popular market in Malaysia — it gives the weaker team a goal start to level the playing field. For example, if Arsenal is -1.0 handicap, they need to win by 2+ goals for an Asian Handicap win. A 1-0 win results in a half-push (refund). Over/Under total goals is straightforward — bet on whether the match will have more or fewer goals than the line set by EE9.
Bankroll Management for Sports Betting
The most important skill in sports betting is not picking winners — it is managing your money. A disciplined staking plan prevents emotional betting and protects your bankroll during inevitable losing runs. The unit system recommends betting 2–5% of your total bankroll per bet. If you start with MYR 500, your unit size is MYR 10–25. This means even a run of 10 consecutive losses (very rare) would not wipe out your bankroll. Never chase losses by increasing your bet size after a losing run — this is the fastest way to lose your bankroll. Record all your bets in a spreadsheet to track your return on investment (ROI). Bet with your head, not your heart — your favourite team is often the worst team to bet on due to emotional bias.
